All chicks are doing well!

The PF's chicks are starting to lose their white down feathers and are growing fast. I hope to get some decent shots of them soon but the problem is the adults don't like me being there and I have no intention of disturbing these birds just for a photograph. The Kestrel chicks are flourishing as you can see from this picture below. The parents are bringing voles to the nest very regularly which is great to observe.

  1. Great excitement this morning (Sat 27th) as a heron circled the area, presumably with a view to landing at the pool. This caused much consternation on the rock and one of the adult PF's began shrieking warnings at it. It then launched a noisy attack 2 or 3 times at it as the heron continued to circle. Discretion proved the better part of valour and the heron beat a hasty retreat and the PF returned to sentry duty.
Shame I didn't have your kit as I could have posted a great shot or two!

  2. That sounds exciting Nicholas! Those PGF's are a nightmare to photograph - they hate me anywhere near. I have permission from the owner to use the field but it's a waste of time. Even when I'm in a hide they won't bring food to the chicks! Had some good shots of the Kestrels mind as compensation! I'll post some of my latest shots very soon. The Kestrels fledged yesterday afternoon and the PGF's will go soon I suspect! Aren't we lucky to have them all on our doorstep? Thanks for your comment!
